Match report
It couldn't have started more intensely. After a fast and at times hectic start, Salzburg's Ali Wukovits and Klagenfurt's David Maier got into it early (3rd). Then ice hockey was played. Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen took center stage in two consecutive shorthanded games and distinguished himself for the first time. Shortly afterwards, Red Bull played their first power play and Thomas Raffl scored with a hook in front of Klagenfurt goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm to make it 1:0 (12'). From that moment on, Salzburg took control of the game and posed a constant threat in the offensive zone. The KAC only got in front of Salzburg's goal again shortly before the break, but had two or three really good moments. The Red Bulls led 1:0 after 20 minutes.
Exactly 45 seconds had been played in the second period when Tyler Lewington suddenly found himself alone in front of goal and netted dryly (21st). The home side then had further great chances. But the game again became an up-and-down affair with changing opportunities. Atte Tolvanen was on hand to stop a 2-on-1 counter-attack (26'). Both teams pressed the pace, but mostly neutralized each other. And again the KAC had the better scenes towards the end of the third, shooting two or three times from distance. But the Red Bulls scored ice-cold again. Lucas Thaler won the disc in front of the goal and slid it through the goalie's pads into the net - 3:0. That was also the score at the break after 40 minutes.
The KAC clearly did not stop and continued to give the Red Bulls a thrilling game. With a lot of pressure on the goal, where Atte Tolvanen held his own impressively time and time again. However, Klagenfurt increasingly shifted the game into the offensive zone. The Red Bulls were compact, blocked a lot and threw themselves into the shots when playing short-handed. Klagenfurt continued to press, with many good chances, while the Red Bulls relieved the pressure with occasional counter-attacks. And once again scored the final goal: Troy Bourke scored the empty Klagenfurt goal while short-handed to make the final score 4:0.
