Course of the game
The KAC opened the final series with a goal in the 3rd minute, Finn van Ee deflected a shot from distance right in front of Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen. In the initially controlled game of both teams, the duels were fast. Klagenfurt then became more pressing in front of goal, but in the first powerplay of the game Mario Huber tucked the disc into Sebastian Dahm's box from the left face-off circle (11'). The game became more intense. Salzburg took the momentum with them and were now better in the game. The KAC caused uncertainty with two or three really dangerous scenes in the Salzburg goal area. Thomas Raffl then had Salzburg's best chance after a short solo run, but under pressure (14th). After an even 20 minutes, the score was 1:1.
The second period brought a lot of fighting and initially few chances. It went back and forth, both goalies were on hand to save a few shots from nowhere. The first Klagenfurt powerplay (from the 30th minute) saw a lot of traffic and confusion in front of Salzburg's goal, but Atte Tolvanen then cleared. The KAC started the final period full of pressure and dominated the opening phase. Tobias Sablattnig put the ball on the bar from distance during another Klagenfurt overtime spell (44'). The Red Bulls got back into the game with a powerplay of their own and the action went back and forth. Klagenfurt's Senna Peeters had a chance on a rebound (51'), but was stopped decisively. During Klagenfurt's third strong powerplay of the period, Salzburg had to pull out all the stops to prevent the impending goal. They put a lot of effort into blocking all shots and played their way into extra time. The game continued with unbelievable intensity, with both teams working relentlessly towards the goal at high speed. Lucas Thaler finally took his chance and secured victory for the Red Bulls with a well-placed shot from the half-high slot (69') and thus the first lead in the series.
