After the opening game against Skellefteå, the next home game in the European premier class against Danish champions SønderjyskE Vojens follows on Sunday, September 8th (3:00 pm).
The starting position
The Red Bulls have been training as a complete team again since yesterday, after seven Austrian national team players have been absent for the last two weeks due to Olympic qualification. In the last three days before the start of the CHL, the Austrian champions are putting the finishing touches to their game against Skellefteå AIK on Friday. The Red Bulls will face one of the best teams in Europe - the Swedish champions also made it to the final in the CHL last season - and are preparing for a tough game accordingly.
Interview Chay Genoway
Defender Chay Genoway
“It's good to have the team back together. We're having fun together in training and are looking forward to the first CHL home game. Skellefteå AIK is of course a top team from a top league. They were very good last season and we expect them to be the same this time. It's a big challenge for us to have them in our first game. But in this format, it's important to be ready for every game anyway.”
Head Coach Oliver David
“We already had a tough game in Skellefteå in the CHL opener last season. Even at that early stage, their high level was impressive. It's great that we have them again for the opener and another chance to challenge one of the best teams in Europe.”
Florian Baltram out for longer
For the first time in six CHL seasons, forward Florian Baltram will not be able to play in the premier league. The 27-year-old underwent surgery today (lower body) following recent persistent complaints and is expected to be out for several months.
Champions Hockey League | Mode
24 teams play in the regular season. Each team has six games against six different opponents, which are allocated by lot. This means that each team has three home games and three away games against six different opponents. Teams from the same league cannot play each other in the regular season. The results of the regular season (3-point ranking) are used to produce a ranking of all 24 teams.
The first 16 teams qualify for the play-off round of 16, with 1st playing against 16th, 2nd against 15th and so on. This results in the playoff tree up to the final. The play-off matches are decided by a first and second leg, with the total number of goals (aggregate score) being decisive in the event of a tie. Only the final is decided in an all-important match.
