Game recap
The recovered captain Thomas Raffl led the Red Bulls onto the ice at the Warrior Cup and played his first pre-season game. The young team, which started with seven Red Bull Hockey Juniors (seven Salzburg national team players are on Olympic qualifying duty at the same time), was immediately confronted by the pressure of the Scots, who had their first good goal after just 20 seconds. That was Salzburg's wake-up call. Vadim Schreiner (4th) had the first good chance in the powerplay, then (8th) a goal by Florian Baltram was disallowed after video evidence. The Red Bulls increasingly dominated the game. Nevertheless, Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen was challenged at intervals with good shots and was lucky with a crossbar shot during a 2-on-1 counter-attack (14th). In the 18th minute, the Red Bulls took advantage of their second power play and went 1:0 ahead when Dennis Robertson deflected Thomas Raffl's shot past Glasgow goalie Landon Bow to take the lead for the third period.
After another intense start to the second period by the Scots and initially a lot of defensive work by Salzburg, Dennis Robertson had the second goal on his stick with a solo run while short-handed (25'). The Red Bulls then also switched to attacking mode, but found themselves exposed to a number of counter-attacks. In the 30th minute, Atte Tolvanen saved against two attacking Scots, and in the same minute Peter Hochkofler hit the bar during a counter-attack. The second period went back and forth with good opportunities on both sides. In the 35th minute, Tyson Mclellan finished off a 2-on-1 counter-attack with the equalizer and a solo shot even gave the Scots the lead before the second break. Liam Finlay (40) made it 2:1 and turned the game around.
The final period was an intense exchange of blows with an alternating number of shots and a good tempo. As the third period progressed, the Red Bulls became more pressing and had significantly more offensive possession. However, the Scottish goalkeeper was on the alert for every shot. In the final minutes, the Scots opened up the game again and created chances, but then Thomas Raffl was just right at the right post on Troy Bourke's pass in the powerplay and scored to equalize the score at 2:2 (57'). After another short-handed game in Salzburg and a heated final phase, the game finally went into overtime. And there Dennis Robertson had the presence of mind to score from distance after a short trip by the Scottish goalkeeper to give Glasgow Clan a 3:2 victory (63').
