Game recap
The Red Bulls (without Thomas Raffl, Ali Wukovits and Troy Bourke) did not get off to a good start. Zurich's Sven Andrighetto was played free in the very first minute and scored from an acute angle. A fast-paced game at eye level developed immediately, but it was once again the Swiss who scored. Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen had no chance with Dean Kukan's concealed and deflected shot (8'). Although Salzburg kept at it and created a number of chances, the Swiss added one more before the break, Denis Malgin converting a solo effort for a 3:0 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second half, Salzburg invested more in their attacking play and shifted most of the game into the attacking zone. The chances became much better, but Zurich goalkeeper Robin Zumbühl kept his team's backs free with good reactions. You got the impression that Salzburg only really got into the game in the second period and were now on a par with ZSC. The disk was almost in several times, but would not cross the goal line in the second period.
The Red Bulls continued to put Zurich under pressure in the final third, but the Swiss had now opened up the game more, so that it regularly went both ways. The Red Bulls had to work hard for every chance, as the Lions were now also strong defensively and lurking on the counterattack. The Red Bulls kept up the pace until the end, but were not rewarded for their remarkable efforts. The result from the first period was also the final score, the ZSC Lions won 3:0 against Salzburg.
On Saturday, the second day of the tournament, the two Red Bull teams from Salzburg and Munich will meet - incidentally for the first time in the tournament's history - in the match for third place (15:00). The final between the Växjö Lakers and the ZSC Lions will take place at 19:00.
