After the Juniors dominated the first period, the game lost some of its tempo in the second. In the final period, the hosts briefly fought their way back into the Juniors' lead, but the young Salzburgers confidently increased their lead to a final score of 5:2.
Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors put the Tigers under pressure right from the start and forced them into defense with their high tempo. Maximilian Mackner scored the first goal of the evening in the 8th minute. However, the Bayreuth Tigers remained dangerous at all times and created good chances, especially towards the end of the first period. Despite being outnumbered, they were unable to beat goalkeeper Thomas Pfarrmaier. Maximilian Wurzer made it 2:0 shortly before the interval (19th) after a precise pass from Paul Vinzens.
The Juniors extended their lead in the second period. Just 45 seconds after the restart, Adrian Gesson (21) increased the lead to 3:0 after an intense scramble in front of the Bayreuth goal. A subsequent overtime situation gave the Tigers another good chance, but the Juniors defended strongly. As the game progressed, the Red Bulls increasingly forced the Tigers back into their defensive third. However, as the game progressed, the Bayreuth side got into the game better thanks to more overtime situations and an evenly poised duel developed. Both teams became more physical towards the end of the second period, but the score remained the same.
The final period was characterized by further penalties and the game was eventful on both sides. Despite some offensive actions, neither team found a way to score. In the 47th minute, Christopher Seto finally managed to beat Salzburg goalkeeper Pfarrmaier and reduce the deficit to 1:3. This brought fresh momentum into the game and both teams stepped up the pace again. While the Red Bulls continued to create chances, the Tigers remained dangerous with clever moves. In the 51st minute, Bayreuth took advantage of a five-minute overtime situation to close the gap to 2:3. However, the Juniors remained calm and did not allow themselves to be rattled. In the 59th minute, Maximilian Kirchebner scored in overtime to make it 4:2, and Nick Maul sealed the win with an empty-net goal (60th) to make the final score 5:2.
