Thursday, 7:45 am. While the next hot summer day is already looming outside, the Red Bulls' U11 team meets in the ice arena for their first training session. There is no sign of tiredness due to the early morning hour, the kids are in good spirits and wait impatiently until coach Frank Seewald blows his whistle to clear the ice.

Diligent training in the Salzburg ice arena
And then it's time to get started. First warm-up exercises and technique training, then the pucks are added. At the end, it's all about scoring goals, in 1 vs. 1 or 2 vs. 2 with flying changes. The jump over the barrier that borders the ice hockey pitch imitates the changeover at the boards.
The first session is over after an hour, the second follows in the afternoon. In between, there is an off-ice training session, so everything is almost like the big ones.
Training camp = intensive week
“We always start the new training season with a really intensive week. The kids are on the ice twice a day from Monday to Friday, plus one off-ice training session each day,” says Andreas Brucker, Director of Development Youth. This week it's the turn of the U11 team, coached by Frank Seewald, Sebastian Gangl and Leon Jaky. Next week, the U9 team will follow, mixed with U7 children. The older 'semesters', U13 and U15, have been back in training since August 5.

Andreas Brucker is always involved in training himself and therefore has an optimal overview. “We were all really looking forward to the new start. The children and youngsters are always highly motivated after the summer and with around 30 children from last year's beginners' courses now continuing in the U7 and U9 teams, we already have a great basis again.” A total of 15 coaches are responsible for training the Red Bulls' youngsters.
Each training camp ends with a tournament on Saturday in the ice arena, to which Austrian, German and Czech teams are invited. A welcome opportunity for the young Red Bulls cracks to try out what they have just learned and compete against each other.
