Red Bulls have a playoff ticket in the bagThis is Salzburg's 19th playoff appearance in a row // win2day ICE Hockey LeagueWith the 3:2 overtime win in Asiago, it was clear: The Red Bulls have secured their playoff spot, meaning they can finish no lower than sixth in the remaining four games of the basic round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Of course, this is only the mathematical description of this fact. Of course, Thomas Raffl and his team want to move up from third place in the table and finish at least second, but this will require not only a strong sporting performance in the last four rounds - they are 11 points behind league leaders KAC and 2 points behind Székesfehérvár with one game more than the Hungarians - but also some support.
Salzburg enters the 19th knockout round
In 2004, the Red Bulls made their debut in what is now the international ICE Hockey League. One year later, in the 2005/06 season, they made it to the playoffs, starting with the semi-finals of the top four. Since then, the Red Bulls have always been involved in the post-season and have finished as champions eight times.
With Sunday's away win against Asiago, the Red Bulls have now secured playoff qualification for the 19th time in a row. Only the spusu Vienna Capitals have achieved this number of consecutive playoff appearances to date.
Also remarkable: In the last ten seasons (with the exception of the 2020 playoffs, which were canceled due to coronavirus), the Salzburg team has reached at least the semi-finals - the longest semi-final run ever achieved by a team in the history of the multinational league. Salzburg have also been crowned champions eight times since the league was founded and also lead this statistic.

Putting the finishing touches on after the break The Red Bulls are recovering during the current week off due to the IIHF break and will return to training on Thursday. However, there will be no break for five cracks - Philipp Wimmer, Paul Huber, Thomas Raffl, Lucas Thaler and Ali Wukovits - as they are taking part in a four-nation tournament in Epinal, France, with the Austrian national team and preparing for the 2024 World Championship in the Czech Republic.
The Red Bulls do not return to league action until February 16th with an away game against Ljubljana. The next home game is on Sunday, February 18, in the Eisarena Salzburg against the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg (3:00 p.m.).
