Game recap
The Red Bulls, with the same lineup as on Sunday against Villach, dominated the action on the ice in the beginning, but fell behind in the 6th minute through a hidden blue-liner by Hungary's Henrik Nilsson, goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen was completely out of sight. Salzburg remained the pressing team after that and literally laid siege to Olivier Roy's goal, but he also thwarted a number of top chances for the Red Bulls in the opening period. The visitors had their most dangerous moments during two periods of superior possession, but hardly created any good chances. Nevertheless, the home side trailed 0:1 after 20 minutes, contrary to the course of the game.
In the second half, the visitors initially opened up the game a little and made it quick, but after just a few minutes the Red Bulls set the tone again. Troy Bourke (24) had the first top chance after a solo run through the defense and Paul Huber had another opportunity with a rebound (33). But the visitors did it again, Balint Magosi worked his way in front of goal and netted for a 2:0 lead (36). After that, the Hungarians also remained dangerous and finally took their lead into the dressing room, while the Red Bulls were again unable to reward themselves.
The home side started to catch up in the final period. Drake Rymsha took a shot from the half-high slot in the power play (46') and reduced the deficit to 1:2. The game was now open, with the Hungarians also working hard and creating chances. However, the Red Bulls invested more in the now really emotional game and put the visitors under increasing pressure with strong shots. But even without a goalkeeper and with Troy Bourke's last great chance right in front of the goalie, the Red Bulls were unable to force an equalizer and remained without points at home against the second-placed team from Hungary.
