The first period got off to an even start. Both teams created good chances from the first minute of the game, but failed to score. After the first few minutes, the Juniors tried to increase the pressure on the South Tyroleans, but the Italians closed the gap with their compact defensive play. The game then went back and forth until the 18th minute. In this minute, the Juniors had an overpayment, but promptly conceded a goal through Diego Cuglietta.
In the second period, the Juniors tried to equalize right from the start. However, the Italians remained strong defensively, prevented Salzburg from finishing and consequently took control of the game. In the 26th minute, Diego Cuglietta scored a brace to make it 2:0 for Cortina. The Juniors were initially unable to find an answer to the South Tyroleans' play. Despite several strong opportunities for the young Salzburgers, they were unable to beat the Italian goalkeeper in the second period. In the final minutes of the game, Cortina again exerted enormous pressure thanks to their superior numbers. Just 8 seconds before the break, the home side finally scored, again through Cuglietta, to make it 3:0.
The game picked up pace again in the final period. Both teams played physically and fought for every inch. Cortina pressed for another goal thanks to an overtime situation, but Salzburg goalkeeper Thomas Pfarrmaier prevented this with strong saves. The Juniors then also had a man advantage and got into the game better and better. In the 52nd minute, Paul Noll was rewarded with a goal to make it 1:3. This spurred the Juniors on and Lukas Hörl managed to score the equalizer in the 57th minute. With a sixth outfield player, the Juniors tried to equalize, but were narrowly beaten 2:3.
