Course of the game
The second game in the semi-finals of the Austrian championship between Red Bull Hockey Juniors and EC Bregenzerwald got off to a fast start. Both teams tried to score the opening goal from the very first minute of the game. The Juniors initially had the more dangerous chances, but they fought for every inch. The young Salzburgers managed to take control of the game as the first period progressed. The game shifted into the visitors' third. However, Luca Erne scored to give Bregenzerwald the lead in the 19th minute.
The Juniors started the second period with an overtime opportunity, but were unable to capitalize on it. The young Salzburgers then showed themselves with strong offensive actions. The game became more physical and picked up pace again. Bregenzerwald gained another overtime opportunity, but were unable to extend their lead thanks to the strong defense of the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The home side pressed for the equalizer and only just failed to score. The second period thus remained goalless.
The final period got off to another hotly contested start. Characterized by ups and downs, both teams tried to force their opponents into making a mistake. The game was played at eye level at high speed. When the Juniors were able to set the pace in the game again, EC Bregenzerwald suddenly scored in the 50th minute of the game through an unfortunate own goal by the Juniors - scorer from Bregenzerwald: Mark Mußbacher - to take a 2:0 lead. With the score in the semi-final tied at 5:5, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors immediately continued to fight to secure their place in the final. However, Bregenzerwald goalkeeper Alexander Schmidt could not be beaten for the time being. The game therefore had to go into extra time. Vasily Zelenov scored for Red Bull Hockey Juniors to make the score 6:5 and secure his team a place in the final of the Austrian championship.
