Game recap
The Red Bulls started the game in Graz with a shot from the bar on the power play (2nd half) and then put on five minutes of constant pressure. The home side was only busy defending, while the Salzburgers shot at goal time and time again. Gradually, the Graz team broke free and started to make offensive pinpricks. With a good shot by Anthony Salinitri (11th) from the left face-off circle and Taylor Matson (16th) from the slot. Goaltender Atte Tolvanen was on hand for the few opportunities, though, as was his counterpart Lars Volden, who saved more than twice as many Salzburg shots (17). The first period went clearly to the Red Bulls, but it was still goalless into the dressing rooms.
In the second period, the Grazers came back on the ice more actively and now pressed for their part on the Salzburg goal. Then the Red Bulls became dangerous again, but the game was now open. Mario Huber showed a dangerous one-timer from the slot (27th), on the other side Michael Schiechl hit the bar directly in front of Atte Tolvanen in shorthanded (29th). Shortly after, the Grazers took the lead, Sam Antonitsch converted a rebound right in front of the goal on the powerplay (29th). Five minutes later, the Red Bulls equalized, Lucas Thaler took a shot from distance and made it 1:1 (35.). The Salzburgers were now more on the pressure again and Chay Genoway scored before the second intermission for a 2-1 lead, drove into the slot and just pulled the trigger (39th). After the short-lived deficit, Salzburg turned the game around with strong final minutes and took the deserved lead into the break.
In the final period, the Red Bulls again set the tone and rarely allowed the home side to score dangerously in front of their own goal. Peter Schneider had a possible third goal on his stick several times, but the best chance on a 2-on-1 with Ryan Murphy (49th) was thwarted by the strong Graz goalkeeper with an incredible save. Three minutes later Lucas Thaler put the disc on the crossbar in the power play (52.) At the end, however, it was really dicey again, because the Grazers provided 6:4 field players for 1:39 minutes for some highly dangerous actions in front of the Salzburg goal. However, the Red Bulls survived this last onslaught and were finally happy about three well-deserved points at the bottom of the table.
