Game recap
The first third in Brunico was a clear affair for the Red Bulls. They dominated the action on the ice from the start and pushed the home side back into their own zone with a lot of running. Lucas Thaler took the lead after Thomas Raffl's cross to the right post (8'). Mario Huber scored with a beautiful one-timer, set up by Florian Baltram, from the half-high slot to make it 2-0 (14th), followed by the third goal by Paul Huber (17th), who secured the 3-0 lead at the break with his first goal of the season directly in front of Jacob Smith's goal with a rebound. It was only at the end that Pustertal became dangerous and tested Salzburg's goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen with three or four dangerous shots.
The second period was more open, Pustertal made more for the offense and more pressure. This resulted in a game of ups and downs, with the teams now taking turns creating opportunities. In the 32nd minute, the Pustertaler wrote for the first time, Manuel Öhler put the disc flat from the slot right next to the bar. After that, things got heated, Val Pusteria pushed for the next goal. Salzburg kept at it and had the next good opportunity with Florian Baltram, who was set up by Mario Huber directly in front of the goalie (38th). Phillip Sinn also had a free shot from the left faceoff circle (39th) and Adam Payerl came to the disc directly in front of the goalie. After Salzburg's strong final phase, the 3-1 lead remained.
In the final period, the two met at eye level in a fast-paced game with a lot of pace, but Peter Hochkofler netted the rebound in the 46th minute after a Ryan Murphy shot for a 4-1 lead and ensured safety. The Red Bulls continued to play calmly after that and did not let themselves be dissuaded from the line by many disruptive actions. They constantly pressed on goal and created more good opportunities. Atte Tolvanen saved the best chance from Matthias Mantinger (54'), who appeared alone in front of him. Apart from that, the Red Bulls didn't allow much more and finally celebrated a deserved 4-1 victory in Brunico after a rough final third, with which they returned to the top of the table level on points with Székesfehérvár.
