Recap
The Red Bulls started with a lot of pressure and put the Bolzano defense under stress in their own zone already in the first minutes with good long-range shots and a lot of running work. Gradually, the guests became more active, a fast up and down developed, in which also Salzburg's goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen soon had to intervene. Both teams created scoring chances, although they were still few and far between. Adam Payerl had one such opportunity after a counterattack in the 14th minute, but just missed. On the other side Daniel Frank was released in the slot (15.), Atte Tolvanen parried the shot. Three minutes later, Brad McClure scored from the right face-off circle to give the visitors the lead (18). The Red Bulls equalized before the break, Peter Schneider scored on the powerplay in the final minute on the rebound of a Ryan Murphy blueliner, overcoming Bozen goalkeeper Niklas Svedberg for the first time and putting the score at 1-1 after the overall even start third.
The Red Bulls started the second period with a deflected powerplay goal by Thomas Raffl (23rd) after a shot by Ryan Murphy, the disc hit just inside the cross corner. After that, the Red Bulls were lucky in the 3:5 shorthanded when the disc touched the bar behind Atte Tolvanen (26th), the Finn then also thwarted the great chance of Domenico Alberga (28th) free from the slot. In the strong phase of Bolzano, however, the home side scored the next goal - again on the power play. Chay Genoway's shot was deflected by a defender into the cross corner for a 3:1 lead. Lucas Thaler and Adam Payerl also had top chances after that, but Bolzano came back, Christian Thomas scored from the blue line to tie it up 2:3 (34th). Bolzano continued to press and almost equalized after a wild poke (with subsequent video evidence). But Adam Payerl restored the 2-goal advantage two seconds before the intermission siren with a shot from half distance on the 5:3 power play.
The game remained hot. At first, Salzburg had more of the game, but some of the duels were reminiscent of the last final series. And the guests forced the offensive, kept it exciting. Both teams took it in turns to create chances. Peter Schneider first made his brace perfect after he put Thomas Raffl's picture-perfect cross under the crossbar (54th). Bozen also struck again, Brad McClure scored for the second time this evening (56.). But that was finished by Peter Schneider with the empty-net goal and thus his third goal in this game for a deserved 6:3 home victory. The Red Bulls have thus also returned to the top of the table.
