If you were a little late to this game, you had already missed the first goal. Troy Bourke, assisted by Florian Baltram in his 400th league game, was quickest on a lightning attack on the rebound and fired the Red Bulls into the lead after just 15 seconds. The Salzburgers (without Thomas Raffl, Benjamin Nissner and Philipp Wimmer) continued to dictate the action, coming up with more opportunities, like Ali Wukovits with a shot from the right face-off circle (3rd). In the 9th minute, the guests had the first top chance, William Rapuzzi broke free from the defense, but got stuck by Salzburg goalie David Kickert. Then, however, the guests used their first power play to equalize (10th), Gennaro Matteo Vittorio shot from the right face-off circle into the far cross corner. The guests became more courageous, opened the game and remained dangerous. The Red Bulls also had further opportunities and a little more of the game, but they were not able to get many rebounds. Tim Harnisch, among others, had two chances from the slot (13.). After the initial Salzburg superiority, the guests made it an even game towards the end of the third, and the score was 1-1 at the break.
In the second period, the home side took control of the game again and pressed hard for the goal. But the Italian defense proved to be a tough affair, with many shots close to the goal always some stick or goalkeeper Marco de Filippi Roia was in between. And then the visitors scored again on the power play, when Gennaro Matteo Vittorio (34th) crossed the net and scored his second goal. The answer came immediately, Lukas Schreier, today as a temporary striker in use, chipped the disc from close range after strong preparation of Paul Huber into the net (35.). Also in the final phase, the Red Bulls provided much explosiveness in front of the housing, only the long-deserved opening goal would not yet fall.
After the second break, Salzburg continued to rotate in the attacking zone, even if the guests now had more offensive moments. Then Tyler Lewington took heart and let out a hammer shot from the blue line for the 3:2 lead (49th). Tim Harnisch later touched the crossbar from close range (52.). In the 58th minute, David Kickert secured the lead when he parried Bryce Misley's penalty. And Mario Huber finally slid the disc into the empty visitors' goal in the final minute with his 100th club-wide league goal for a deserved 4:2 victory for the Red Bulls.
