Adam Payerl back to his rootsThe striker with 'shoot first mentality' is finding his way better and better into the team // PortraitAdam Payerl was the first newcomer of the Red Bulls after last season and besides Ryan Murphy, who came a bit later, also the only one this summer. The forward moved from the DEL from Augsburg to Salzburg.
He is tall and very athletic. You can tell the 32-year-old Canadian has trained hard over the summer. That fits in well with the Red Bulls, where the physical component is known to play an important role in achieving the season's goals. Payerl has also set his sights on defending the championship title with the Red Bulls and holding such a trophy in his hands for once.
In addition to two NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2013/14), Payerl was steeled, among other things, in 329 AHL games (52 goals, 71 assists) and then completed 243 DEL games (72 goals, 69 assists) with the Augsburg Panthers to now accept a new challenge in Salzburg. His first goal for the Red Bulls on October 1 in Vienna was 'taken away' from him again, as the game had to be abandoned after the first period, but it is probably only a matter of time before the Canadian strikes again. The following interview with him was made at the beginning of September:
By the way, the Canadian's last name, which sounds familiar to local ears, is actually rooted in Austria, Adam Payerl confirms: "My father's parents were born and raised here before they emigrated to Canada in the mid-1950s. They lived in Döllach in the municipality of Aflenz at the time. A small village as far as I know, we still have some cousins there. We will definitely go there sometime and visit the family."
