Game recap
Both teams initially eyed each other up and secured their defenses. The game then picked up pace, initially without any decisive action. The Slovenians gained a bit more possession, but at 4-on-4, Mario Huber drove a counterattack down the left side and curled the puck past goalie Lukas Horak to take the lead (10th minute). A good two minutes later, Mario Huber was in the right place after a Florian Baltram shot and converted the rebound for his first brace of the season to put them 2-0 up (13th minute). The Slovenians continued to press and pulled one back before the break. Rok Kapel was left alone in front of Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen and scored a one-timer (19th minute). The Reds led 2-1 after 20 minutes thanks to efficient play.
Immediately after the restart, Lucas Thaler had a chance with a one-timer right in front of goal (21st minute). Shortly thereafter, Evan Polei was released in front of the goal on the other side and scored to equalize at 2-2 (22nd minute). Salzburg remained under pressure, first shorthanded, then even with equal numbers. Only on their own power play (from the 27th minute) did the Red Bulls return to the attacking zone and immediately posed a threat. From then on, the game became an increasingly intense back-and-forth affair, with both teams having opportunities. After an evenly matched second period, the score was tied at 2-2 at halftime.
The final period continued in this vein. The game went back and forth, with both teams alternately establishing themselves in the attacking zone and narrowly missing the goal several times. In the 51st minute, Ziga Pance was sent on his way and scored on his own rebound to give the home side the lead (51st minute). The Red Bulls then threw everything forward even more, while Ljubljana remained dangerous on the counterattack, but was always intercepted. With six skaters, Salzburg finally managed to equalize, but Connor Corcoran's long-range shot was unmarked and saved (58th minute), forcing the game into overtime. However, the game only lasted eleven seconds, as T.J. Brennan fired into the top corner from a full run to secure the second point for the Slovenians. The Red Bulls, who put up a tough fight against the league leaders, were able to at least take home a point.

Statement from Manny Viveiros
"We got off to a good start in an overall good game in which we had plenty of other chances. Unfortunately, we lost Devante Stephens in the first period and had to play with five defensemen. But we still had a lot of energy today and ultimately lost narrowly against a good opponent in a good hockey game."
