Starting position
Once again, the Red Bulls, the record champions of the win2day ICE Hockey League, and the KAC, the Austrian record champions, will face each other in a final. Just last year, both teams delivered a 7-game final series, which the Red Bulls were able to conclude with their ninth title win in the ICE Hockey League. The three finals series in which the two clubs have faced each other in the past also went the full length of seven games; in 2024 and 2011 with the Red Bulls as the winners, in 2009 the KAC won.
Now, however, the cards have been reshuffled as the two clubs plunge into their eleventh playoff series together. After the 4-0 series win in the quarter-finals against Székesfehérvár, the Red Bulls had to push themselves to their physical limits in the semi-finals against HCB Südtirol Alperia to win the series - the 4-1 score belies the close nature of all the games. After their 4-2 quarter-final series win against HC Pustertal Wölfe, the KAC took a 7-game series with the Linz Black Wings in the semi-finals and proved their staying power in the process.
Top scorers of both teams
In the playoffs so far, Salzburg's top line has been the most successful line, just like in the basic round. Benjamin Nissner and Peter Schneider, the two forwards with the most points after the GD, have scored the most goals in the postseason with 7 and 6 respectively. Thomas Raffl is Salzburg's third-highest scorer after 9 games with 3 goals.
Nick Petersen (11 Sp, 6 T) and Matt Fraser (13 Sp, 5 T) also take responsibility for the KAC in the deciding games. Mathias From, Klagenfurt's top scorer in the GD with 21 goals (tied with Matt Fraser), has only scored twice in 13 games so far. Raphael Herburger, on the other hand, has made a strong showing and is currently Klagenfurt's top playoff scorer with 7 goals in 13 games.
