Red Bulls with first semi-final match-up against BolzanoSalzburg leads 3:1 in the best-of-seven series // win2day ICE Hockey League | PlayoffsThe semi-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League go into a first deciding game. Tomorrow, Friday, EC Red Bull Salzburg can secure their place in the final in their fifth clash with HCB Südtirol Alperia in the Eisarena Salzburg (livestream, 7:15 pm). After their recent 3:2 away win in the second overtime in Bolzano two days ago, the Red Bulls now have it in their hands to seal the deal in front of their own fans. As in previous games, another tough duel at eye level is expected, with Salzburg 3:1 up in the best-of-seven series.

Starting position
Unsurprisingly, this series has been a tough one. The Red Bulls only won the first semi-final match in Salzburg 3:1, i.e. with a two-goal difference. All other games ended 3:2, twice going into extra time. Both teams have won away games, and both teams have won once in overtime. It could hardly be any closer and so the fifth semi-final match-up can and must be expected to be another showdown between two teams that are in no way inferior to each other in every respect on the ice.
Salzburg have a psychological advantage: with a win in front of their own fans, they can end the series and secure their place in the final. However, history also shows that those teams who are fighting to end the series can significantly improve and surpass themselves with an all-or-nothing attitude. The will to win will be decisive for the outcome in this first deciding game.
Similar course of play
The four previous duels have had strikingly similar outcomes. The Red Bulls always had the better start and were 2:0 ahead. Only in the opening game did this also lead to a 3:1 victory. In the three games that followed, Bolzano was able to level the score at 2:2 each time, benefiting from a strong second period. The so-called momentum thus always tipped in Bolzano's favor in the second period, followed by an even final third.
