Red Bulls aim for revenge in home game against AsiagoThe Austrian champions are firmly in the playoffs// win2day ICE Hockey League Tomorrow, Sunday, EC Red Bull Salzburg concludes the four-game week of the win2day ICE Hockey League with a home game against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey (4:30 p.m., free livestream) and wants to take revenge for last Tuesday's away defeat. At the same time, the Red Bulls want to quickly get back to their orderly team play after they were dissatisfied with their own performance in the first 40 minutes of yesterday's home game against the Moser Medical Graz99ers and lost 3:2 after overtime. However, yesterday's point secured the team's participation in the play-offs.

Starting position
They no longer have a chance of reaching the pre-playoffs, and yet the team from Asiago is proving to be a high hurdle for the Red Bulls. Just four days ago, Salzburg lost 4:3 on penalties in Asiago, but had the chance to decide the game differently. However, the Venetians successfully defended against Salzburg's dominant play with more than twice as many shots on goal and initiated the Red Bulls' defeat with a late equalizer (58').
The Red Bulls, who have won all five home games in their short league history with Asiago, will not be prepared for that this time. However, another top game is needed against the twelfth-placed team in the table, as the first home game in September last year also ended with just a one-goal difference in Salzburg's favor.
Since yesterday, the Red Bulls have also secured their place in the playoffs three rounds before the end of the basic round, meaning they can no longer be ousted from the top 6. However, the current runners-up are still aiming to get a ticket for the CHL 2025/26, i.e. to finish at least second after the basic round.
Well-known goalscorers
Particular attention must be paid to Asiago's top trio. Matteo Gennaro (22 goals), Nick Saracino (15) and Alex Ierullo (13) have together scored more than a third of Asiago's 123 goals. These three strikers also scored against Salzburg in Asiago on Tuesday.
Benjamin Nissner moved to the top of the Red Bulls' scoring charts with his goal in Bruneck on Wednesday; the 27-year-old striker now has 19 goals (see also interview). Peter Schneider (18), Troy Bourke and Mario Huber (both 14) want to match him.
Statement Oliver David
“One of the positive things from yesterday's game against Graz was that we managed to come back from 2-0 down. But the closer we get to the playoffs, the more difficult it becomes to score three points. We need to get better organized and recharge our batteries before we start Sunday's game against Asiago.”
