Course of the game
Vadim Schreiner made his ICE comeback in the fourth game of the season against Bolzano after more than two months out injured, having already played with the AHL team in Jesenice yesterday. Chay Genoway was also back on board and saw his fellow forward Mario Huber march through the defense after 58 seconds and put the disc in the far corner behind Bolzano's goalkeeper Sam Harvey. The game was immediately on fire and the first scuffles were not long in coming. Both teams tried to make the game fast. However, the first period was characterized by many 'personal' duels that hardly allowed any moves or chances. Bolzano's best chance came from Simon Bourque, who appeared in front of Atte Tolvanen but couldn't get the disc under control (12'). Instead, Benjamin Nissner managed to do so, who asserted himself in front of goal in the powerplay and increased the Red Bulls' lead to 2:0 at the first break.
Ice hockey was then played in the second period and the Red Bulls made sure the score was clear. Ali Wukovits netted with a farmer's trick (23') and Benjamin Nissner converted the rebound under pressure less than a minute later with his fifth brace of the season (!) for a 4:0 lead (24'). The Red Bulls were now really in the mood for the game and were to score twice more. Peter Hochkofler with a hammer from the slot (30') and Troy Bourke, who was played in at the left post by Florian Baltram with a picture-book pass (35'). Atte Tolvanen also had plenty of opportunities to prove himself, however, as the visitors had good chances: Braden Christoffer with plenty of time in the slot (25), Simon Bourque alone in front of goal (30) or Brad McClure with a one-timer (32). But after 40 minutes, the Red Bulls actually led 6:0.
In the final third, Vallini Gianluca replaced the hapless Sam Harvey in the Bolzano goal. The intensity was reduced somewhat, but the game remained dashing. And the visitors suddenly started to score. Giordano Finoro scored in the power play (51'), followed shortly afterwards by Jason Seed from half-distance (53'). Bolzano now piled on the pressure, but the Red Bulls also had further good opportunities towards the end. The home side finally celebrated a clear 6:2 home win and were rewarded with second place in the table before the international break.
