Starting position
After facing Linz in the long-established Salzburg-Upper Austria derby last Sunday, the Red Bulls will face HCB Südtirol tomorrow in Bolzano in their third game of the season, another encounter that has long since become a long-running favorite among both players and fans. Both teams will be looking to consolidate their place in the top six and build on their form towards the play-offs.
After two defeats to the Red Bulls this season and two narrow away defeats in Graz and Villach recently, the South Tyroleans will be keen to score again in front of their own fans and show their strength against the Austrian champions. The Red Bulls have recently won three games in a row and showed against the Black Wings Linz that they are capable of winning the kind of tough games that Bolzano is known for. With a win in Bolzano in regular time, the Red Bulls could draw level with the South Tyroleans on points.
Bolzano with the strongest defense
The biggest task for the Red Bulls: breaking through the Italian defense. Bolzano have conceded 87 goals in 36 games and thus have the best defense in the league. Salzburg have conceded 95 goals in 34 games (4th). The goalkeepers have played a big part in these performances. Bolzano's Sam Harvey is currently number 1 with a 92.4% save percentage, followed by Salzburg's Atte Tolvanen with 91.9%.
In principle, the density of goalkeepers at the top of the league is very high. Dominik Horvath (AVS) and Evan Buitenhuis (HCI) also have a 91.9% save percentage, followed by Lukas Horak (OLL) with 91.8% and Joe Cannate (VSV) with 91.7%.
