Course of the match
The visitors opened the scoring with an early goal. Raphael Wolf scored from half-distance into the corner of the net (2nd), leaving Salzburg goalkeeper David Kickert with no chance. The game then developed with both sides alternating good actions. However, the visitors were a little more pressing and created a number of dangerous situations in front of Salzburg's goal. Mario Huber had Salzburg's first top chance with a shot from a turn right in front of Rasmus Tirronen (6th), who was lucky with a shot off the bar in the 12th minute. David Kickert then caught Brian Lebler's hard shot (17th), Rasmus Tirronen saved Andrew Rowe's shot towards the corner with his catching hand (19th). After the first period, Linz led 1:0 with slightly more shots on goal.
Just at the end of an early power play, Peter Schneider netted the equalizer on the rebound (23rd) after the Red Bulls had already scored once on a volley of good shots. The Red Bulls then stepped up their attack, but had to work hard for their chances in an increasingly intense game. Lucas Thaler finally converted Tyler Lewington's dream pass from an acute angle with a one-timer to give Salzburg the lead for the first time (29'). In the final phase of the third period, the visitors really turned up the heat and played for what felt like half an eternity in Salzburg's defensive zone. David Kickert was on the mark with several dangerous shots from distance, including an attempt by Brian Lebler, who suddenly found himself alone in front of him (39'). The Salzburg defense took care of the rest. After 40 minutes, the Red Bulls had turned the game around and the score was 2:1.
David Kickert was also at the center of attention at the start of the final period and not only had to fend off pucks during a commotion in his goal area, but also take a few stick hits while lying down. It wasn't until the 44th minute that Philipp Krening had the Red Bulls' first offensive action on his stick after a solo run. The Red Bulls then opened the game up again after the disc rolled along the Salzburg goal line after Nico Feldner's shot (45'). Linz continued to press and had more of the play, but the Red Bulls defended strongly and time and again David Kickert was the final stop. In the end, a technical goal decided the game (60') after Thomas Raffl was rudely prevented from shooting into the empty net. In the end, the Red Bulls celebrated three hard-earned points, which the Linz team would also have deserved today.
