Game report
The clash in the Arena Ritten began cautiously. Both teams probed their opponents' defenses in the opening minutes and created their first chances. As the game progressed, the match became more offensive. The Rittner Buam took the lead in the 8th minute of the match with a concealed shot from Adam Giacomuzzi, but the Juniors responded: Just five minutes later (13th), Jakob Schnabl equalized to make it 1:1 after a remarkable combination via Maximilian Wurzer. Salzburg came close to taking the lead in the ensuing overtime, but the puck would not cross the line.
Ritten stepped up the pace in the second period and made it 2:1 in the 23rd minute through Ethan Szypula. The Juniors continued to fight and tried to equalize again, but were repeatedly forced into the defensive by the South Tyroleans. Alan Lobis made it 3:1 in the 29th minute, whereupon the action shifted more into the Red Bulls' defensive third. Nevertheless, Salzburg waited for the home side to make mistakes in order to develop their attacking play, but were unable to find a way through against the compact defense of the Rittner Buam.
At the start of the final period, the Red Bulls once again threw everything forward to reduce the deficit, but were thwarted by the hosts' disciplined defense. In the 47th minute, Ethan Szypula increased the lead to 4:1 with his second goal of the evening, and Markus Spinell made it 5:1 just 41 seconds later (48'). The Juniors were given an overtime opportunity shortly afterwards, but were unable to capitalize on it and had to play shorthanded a few moments later. Mads Larsen put the puck in the net to make it 6:1 (56'). Shortly before the end of the game (60.) Sebastiano Soracreppa scored to make the final score 7:1.
