Starting position
Putting the defeat aside mentally and regenerating physically - after the last CHL game in Karlstad on Tuesday and the return trip to Salzburg the following day, the Red Bulls switched off for a moment and now turned their focus back to the domestic league. The disappointment immediately after the elimination was great, but with a little distance, the Red Bulls have had a really strong season in the European premier class. And they now want to take this positive energy into the upcoming tasks, because even in the win2day ICE Hockey League they need to give their all in every game.
This was also the case against the Slovenians. In their only match of the season so far, they beat the Red Bulls 2:1 on penalties in Ljubljana at the end of November, ending Salzburg's winning streak up to that point. With a good forecheck and strong individual players who bring quality in front of goal.
Who will get back to winning ways?
Olimpija Ljubljana started the fall with four consecutive victories in the league, which made them stand out. However, the Slovenians were unable to maintain their high level and have recently suffered an increasing number of defeats. The last win dates back to December 1 in Vienna, followed by six defeats in a row, the last one (1-3) on Wednesday in Klagenfurt. The Dragons therefore find themselves in 8th place in the table.
The Red Bulls (fifth in the table with fewer games), on the other hand, went on a winning streak after the November break in the CHL and ICE and were only stopped by Ljubljana. That was two weeks ago. After the great moment with the home win against Färjestad BK and a win in Feldkirch, things have been a bit up and down: defeat in Villach, home win against Graz, most recently two defeats in Linz (with a severely depleted line-up) and in Karlstad against a top Swedish team that showed all its (world) class. It is therefore important for both teams to get back on track and regain their confidence.
