Game report
Without forwards Nick Maul and Paul Vinzens, who are currently helping out in the EHC Red Bull Munich squad, the Juniors were joined by Philipp Krening from EC Red Bull Salzburg. The game against EC Bregenzerwald got off to a fast-paced start, with both teams showing great commitment from the outset. However, the home side seized an early opportunity and took the lead through Roberts Lipsbergs in the 11th minute. After a pass from Laurin Wempe, Lipsbergs deflected the puck unstoppably with his skate in front of goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner to make it 1:0. Despite falling behind, Salzburg remained committed and almost equalized thanks to a spectacular solo move by Daniel Assavolyuk (18th), but Wälder goalie Lorenz Widhalm made a strong save.
In the second period, the Red Bulls exerted pressure early on, especially in an overpayment situation, but were unable to convert their chances into goals. In the 23rd minute, the Vorarlberg team increased the lead to 2:0: A shot by Julian Zwerger was unfortunately deflected by a Salzburg defender and surprised Ankirchner in the short corner. The Juniors fought on undeterred, survived two short-handed situations (31st, 35th) and were compact defensively. Offensively, however, they lacked the necessary bit of luck to score the final goal.
The final period began with a bang: in the 42nd minute, Adrian Gesson reduced the deficit to 1:2 with a shot from the high slot. Spurred on by this sense of achievement, the Red Bulls increased the pressure and created numerous opportunities. However, Bregenzerwald scored again against the run of play: Julian Zwerger restored the two-goal lead in the 48th minute. The Juniors showed morale and responded just 26 seconds later (48') with a goal from Philipp Krening to make it 2:3. The game now became more intense and offensive. In the 56th minute, Philipp Wimmer scored the deserved equalizer in the power play to make it 3:3. Both teams then looked for a decision, but the game went into overtime. In overtime, it was once again Adrian Gesson who secured the important away win for the Juniors with his second goal of the evening in the 63rd minute.
