The game continued at a rapid pace and the first five minutes of the second period were a back-and-forth affair. In an energetic attack via Andrew Rowe, Philipp Krening scored right in front of the goal to put the Red Bulls ahead with his first CHL goal (30'). Atte Tolvanen then fended off several good opportunities for the Poles in a heated phase, including 30 seconds at 3 vs. 5 short-handed, and held on to the lead. The Red Bulls then had a number of chances and pressed vehemently on goal, with Luca Auer and Troy Bourke failing to score from close range. But 16 seconds before the end of the period, Krystian Dziubiński played himself free in front of goal and scored for the home side to make it 2:2 at the break.
The Red Bulls pressed again in the final period. First with a good early powerplay, then also with 5 vs. 5. Lucas Thaler got the disc free in front of the goal, but was still obstructed (45.). For a long time the game was like a powerplay on the Polish goal, only Linus Lundin prevented Salzburg from taking the lead. Only late in the third period (from the 51st) did the Red Bulls find themselves under pressure twice in a row, but survived with compact defense. In the 57th minute, the Poles were also unable to convert a penalty. The game went into extra time, in which the home side failed to beat Atte Tolvanen with two top chances, including a solo effort from Erik Ahopelto. Nikolaus Kraus finally freed the Red Bulls with the decisive goal (63'), netting into the half-open goal after a pass from Ali Wukovits to secure the second point.
