At the start of the second period, Salzburg then made very efficient use of their chances and scored three times in the powerplay in the space of just over two minutes. Dennis Robertson (21st), Andrew Rowe, who scored a brace (22nd) and Peter Schneider (23rd) gave them a comfortable 4:0 lead. The Danes then had a strong phase, but failed time and again to score against David Kickert. Salzburg kept at it and Mario Huber converted a beautiful pass from Nash Nienhuis with a one-timer at the post to make it 5:0 (35'). Vojens now played at eye level with the Red Bulls, with both teams alternating good chances in the fast final phase. However, the home side took their 5-goal lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
In the final period, the visitors initially reduced the deficit to 1:5 after a goal by Nikolaj Krag Christensen (42'). However, the Red Bulls had the answer: Lucas Thaler shot from distance and put the shot under the crossbar (46'). The game remained fast and evenly poised until the end and the Red Bulls left almost nothing to chance. Only in the final minute did the Danes reduce the deficit once more in the power play, meaning the Red Bulls still won the duel against the Danish champions by a clear 6:2 in the end.
