Proven Red Bulls defense goes into the next seasonSalzburg holds on to successful veterans // Roster UpdateEC Red Bull Salzburg will continue to work with defensemen Chay Genoway, Tyler Lewington, Dennis Robertson and Ryan Murphy in the 2024/25 season.
All four veterans have extended their contracts with the old and new champions of the win2day ICE Hockey League and want to continue to contribute their cumulative experience to the Salzburg team after the successful last championship season.
Chay Genoway (37), Tyler Lewington (29) and Dennis Robertson (32) came to Salzburg two years ago, won the championship with the Red Bulls in both seasons and are now entering their third season with the club. For Ryan Murphy (31) it will be his second season in Salzburg.
Chay Genoway is a winner. When he came to Salzburg two years ago, he already had a Swedish championship title in Europe and a Champions Hockey League win with the Frölunda Indians (2019) on his CV. The Canadian also brought with him a wealth of experience from several years in the KHL. The assistant captain has now won his second championship title with the Red Bulls back to back, once again pushing himself to his physical limits. With 11 goals, he also scored the most goals of all Salzburg defensemen and was the fourth-best scorer of all league defensemen.
Things couldn't be going better for Tyler Lewington here. Two years ago, the Red Bulls were the first stop in his career in Europe, where the Canadian won two titles. Lewington has once again fulfilled his role as a physically oriented player who commands respect in the defensive zone, but has also become more involved in the offensive play, which has given Salzburg more scoring threat. With these strengths and his team-oriented play, Lewington wants to help the Red Bulls achieve their goals in the coming season.
Dennis Robertson should also feel right at home with the Red Bulls in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The 32-year-old defender with dual Canadian-Irish citizenship played his fourth season in the cross-border league last season and combined a physical approach with game intelligence like no other in winning his second title with the Red Bulls. With a total of 8 goals, the former Calder Cup champion also scored one more goal than in the previous season.
Ryan Murphy joined the Red Bulls last summer and has the most NHL appearances of any Salzburg player with 176 games. The Canadian, who became a father for the first time in the spring, also showed this quality with the Red Bulls. With his pronounced stickhandling, he quickly opens up the play out of his own zone and, paired with a hard, ruthless shot, creates chances in offense. All in all, this resulted in 10 goals and 29 assists last season, making Murphy Salzburg's fifth-best player in terms of scoring points (tied with Salzburg's fourth-best Benjamin Nissner).
