Red Bulls continue to hold on to home-grown playersThree Austrian defensemen with an academy past remain in Salzburg // Roster UpdateEC Red Bull Salzburg plans to stick with Austrians Paul Stapelfeldt, Philipp Wimmer and Lukas Hörl on defense next season and will thus continue to rely on homegrown players in the future.
Hörl has been given a new contract, while the other two defensemen still have an existing contract from last season.
Highlights Paul Stapelfeldt
Paul Stapelfeldt (25) completed his third season with the Salzburg professionals in the 2023/24 championship season and played in all but four games in the basic round. The tall defender, who learned his trade in Salzburg's youth academy and has played at all academy levels, is a reliable defender who has made a name for himself, especially in the defensive area and when outnumbered, with his team-oriented play. The 25-year-old from Salzburg is now hoping to make his first appearance with the Austrian national team at the World Cup in the Czech Republic.
Highlights Philipp Wimmer 2023/24
Philipp Wimmer (22) once again proved his great talent last season with 36 games in the basic round of the ICE Hockey League after having to take a long break in the previous season due to illness. In the Alps Hockey League, he also played a major role in the Red Bull Hockey Juniors reaching the semi-finals again. His performance is also still in demand in the Austrian national team after he made his World Cup debut in Finland last year. Wimmer is once again a candidate for this year's World Championship in the Czech Republic in May.

Lukas Hörl in pictures
Salzburg-born Lukas Hörl (21), like Paul Stapelfeldt before him, has come through all age groups in the Red Bulls' youth program and at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy and has developed into a seasoned defender. He made his debut with the Salzburg pros in the 2021/22 season and has played a total of eleven games in the win2day ICE Hockey League so far. Last season, as captain of the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and their run to the semi-finals of the Alps Hockey League, he also had his best season to date in terms of points. Now the Salzburg native will get the chance to gain a foothold in the Red Bulls' professional team.
