R3PEAT | Red Bulls are champions of the win2day ICE Hockey League for the third time in a row Seventh final game in Klagenfurt went clearly to the Salzburg team with 6:2// win2day ICE Hockey LeagueEC Red Bull Salzburg is the old and new champion of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Red Bulls beat EC-KAC 6:2 in the decisive final game in Klagenfurt to secure the title for the third time in a row for the first time in the history of the league.
In the sold-out Heidi Horten Arena, Salzburg got off to a flying start, scoring two goals in each of the first two periods. Klagenfurt then reduced the deficit by two goals in the final period, but were no longer able to prevent the Red Bulls' clear victory in the end. In addition to the very efficient exploitation of chances, the outstanding defense was decisive for the success today. Nicolai Meyer scored twice today and captain Thomas Raffl, who also netted once, was awarded the MVP of the playoffs. This is the Red Bulls' ninth title in the ICE Hockey League.

Course of the game
Peter Schneider had the first dangerous scene of the game with a good finish from close range (1st). The Red Bulls were more pressing in the first few minutes and took the lead in the 8th minute. Nicolai Meyer took off immediately after Drake Rymsha's face-off and took Klagenfurt goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm by surprise. Shortly afterwards (9th), Peter Schneider had the next chance to counterattack. The hosts then became stronger and looked to go on the offensive. Lukas Haudum shot hard from distance (14'), several other shots went just wide of the goal or landed in the hands of Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen. The Red Bulls defended tightly and continued to mount good attacks. Dennis Robertson then shot from distance and the free Peter Hochkofler deflected the shot in front of the goal for a 2:0 lead (17'). The Red Bulls went into the first break with this lead.
In the second period, Johannes Bischofberger (21) had Klagenfurt's first top chance with a solo effort, but shot over. Just one minute later, Thomas Raffl took a backhand shot in the slot and increased Salzburg's lead to 3:0 (22'). Then the crux of the third: From the 27th minute onwards, the Red Bulls had to play with two men less for 1:42 minutes and kept the score at zero. With an Atte Tolvanen who could not be defeated, for example when Lukas Haudum attempted a shot directly in front of him (28.), and many painful blocks by the defenders. After a brief up-and-down spell, the Red Bulls were once again playing shorthanded and just as this was coming to an end, Nicolai Meyer received the pass straight from the penalty box and netted his second goal after a short solo run to take a 4:0 lead at the break. The Red Bulls fought for this lead with their efficient exploitation of chances, but even more so with their incredibly self-sacrificing defense against many Klagenfurt opportunities.
And Salzburg kept going. After a concentrated restart, Lucas Thaler extended Ryan Murphy's shot through the pads of the Klagenfurt goalie to make it 5:0 (43'). But then the KAC scored their first goal, Paul Postma scored from the right face-off circle (44'). The home side stepped up their attack once more, driving forward without any commitment. But the Red Bulls were not deterred, held their ground and continued to ensure an exchange of blows on both sides, in which hardly any real chances were created for quite some time. But things got fast again, 8 minutes before the end the KAC took the goalie off the ice and in the 53rd minute Klagenfurt reduced the deficit to 2:5 with a goal by Raphael Herburger. The game remained hot, the KAC played in the offensive zone and wanted to add to its tally. Benjamin Nissner's goal into the empty net (57') finally made everything clear. In the end, the Red Bulls clearly won 6:2 and celebrated their third championship title in a row for the first time in the history of the league.
Statement by Thomas Raffl
"It was such a close series. The full distance in the semi-final and now in the final. That saps your strength and then you play against a team like Klagenfurt. Respect to the KAC, who were the best team in the basic round and gave us an incredible final series at eye level. There are so many emotions now, as we played with an incredible team performance after the last defeat in Salzburg today and deserved to win with a mental show of strength. It just feels incredible!"
