Highlights Red Bulls vs. EC-KAC
Game recap
Strong start by the visitors. In the 2nd minute, Johannes Bischofberger missed Atte Tolvanen's 2-on-0, but a few seconds later Thomas Hundertpfund made the most of his chance from close range to take an early lead. Shortly afterwards, Klagenfurt's Nick Petersen had the next great opportunity with a clear shooting lane (3rd). In the 6th minute, the Red Bulls were able to establish themselves in the offensive zone for the first time, but just four minutes later (10th), Klagenfurt increased the lead to 2:0 with their first powerplay through Lukas Haudum. As the game progressed, Salzburg improved and were now more often dangerous in front of goal, but even with their first powerplay before the break, they were still unable to find any compelling opportunities. The Red Bulls somehow still had no real grip on the game and after 20 minutes the score was 0:2.
Salzburg pushed forward more in the second half and promptly scored the equalizer. Ryan Murphy beat Klagenfurt goalie Sebastian Dahm with a follow-up shot after strong work from Lucas Thaler (23'). Klagenfurt's Finn van Ee then had to leave the ice with a 5-minute penalty - Benjamin Nissner, who had been fouled, was fortunately able to continue playing - and the Red Bulls went one better. Peter Hochkofler extended Nicolai Meyer's shot in the power play to equalize at 2:2 (25'). Salzburg were now in full flow and the game became much tougher. But the Red Bulls continued to press and actually turned the game around. After a massive scramble, Phillip Sinn was in the right place and netted his first play-off goal to make it 3:2 (35'). In the end, the Carinthians also took turns with the Red Bulls to take dangerous shots again, but this third clearly went to the Red Bulls.
The tough exchange of blows with alternating chances continued seamlessly in the final third. In the 43rd minute, the KAC equalized with a low shot from Matthew Fraser with an obscured view. Salzburg responded with a rebound and Dennis Robertson took a shot from the left face-off circle and hammered it into the net for a 4:3 lead (46'). They equalized again in the 47th minute, Matthew Fraser scoring directly in front of goal in the power play. And shortly afterwards, the KAC regained the lead, courtesy of David Maier with a hard shot from distance right into the corner of the net (48'). This was followed by Salzburg's equalizer, Troy Bourke's farmer's trick with the help of an opponent's skate (54.) made it 5:5. The game could have been decided on either side, but extra time was needed.
In the first, incredibly intense overtime period, the Red Bulls had more offensive possession overall. But both teams had several chances to end the game in turn. Shots were regularly put on goal and rebounds were taken, and there were also many hectic duels and wasted shots. Both goalkeepers stood out several times and ensured that the game went into extra time, which was now played 3-on-3. And it was there that Troy Bourke converted Dennis Robertson's cross-ice pass after 62 seconds with his second goal of the day to secure a hard-fought 6:5 home win against the evenly matched KAC.

Statement from Phillip Sinn
"We had a difficult start in the first period, but we talked about everything that needed to happen and what we had to look out for during the break. We implemented that well and turned the tide. The mood on the bench remained good even during the other lead changes, everyone was positive. And now we're super happy that we've won this."
