Course of the game
The Red Bulls got off to the best possible start. After a concentrated start, Thomas Raffl won the disc behind the goal and scored early with a farmer's trick, with Klagenfurt goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm in the right corner, but the disc was deflected by a defender (4th). The home side then became more active, Nikolaus Kraus got free in front of Atte Tolvanen's goal after a defensive error by Salzburg, but shot over (8'). Klagenfurt continued to press and played dangerously in Salzburg's defensive zone for quite some time. With a good Tyler Lewington shot from the right face-off circle (12), the Red Bulls were back on the offensive and created opportunities. Then Troy Bourke drove through the Klagenfurt defense and scored from half-distance close to the bar (17.), Sebastian Dahm was still on it, but had to let the disc pass. In the 19th minute, Atte Tolvanen was again on hand to stop a dangerous shot from Lukas Haudum in the power play and held on to the 2:0 lead after a generally very controlled first period.
The home side started the second period with more pressure and quickly reduced the deficit to 1:2, Lukas Haudum scoring from distance in the power play in heavy traffic in front of the goal (24'). The KAC kept at it and forced the Red Bulls to play defense. Just as they were starting to make their mark in offense again, they had to survive another dangerous power play by the hosts. With a strong Atte Tolvanen, who then fended off Matt Fraser's huge chance from close range (28'). But the Carinthians kept up the pressure. The KAC scored again on their third powerplay of the period, with Manuel Ganahl equalizing on the rebound (33'). Suddenly the Red Bulls were really strong again and created some good chances, but Klagenfurt's Jan Mursak scored from a solo run to make it 3:2 and turn the game completely in the home side's favor.
After the second break, the Red Bulls pressed first with a good power play. But immediately afterwards, the KAC resumed their dangerous attacking play. Now they played with an open visor, taking turns in front of both goals, where the defense stood tight and fought hard for every inch. The Red Bulls had a number of good shots during a power play (from the 53rd minute), but they were not placed well enough. In the final phase, Klagenfurt's goal was the only target, but the goalkeeper always had an answer and the luck of the brave on his side. Johannes Bischofberger finally scored into the empty Salzburg goal to seal the Red Bulls' 4-2 defeat in Klagenfurt.

Statement by Peter Hochkofler
"We started the game well, actually exactly how we wanted to. We lost the thread in the second period, had turnovers and penalties. That ultimately cost us the game, even though we still played strongly in the final period. But it's a series that's far from over, now we have home ice advantage again."
