On the upswing in the Alps Hockey League
As surprising as the Juniors' performance side by side with the pros may have been, it was by no means unexpected. Head coach Teemu Levijoki's team fought back strongly in the Alps Hockey League after a mediocre start, which was also due to a thin squad because of many sick and injured players, and rolled up the field win by win. After four defeats at the start of the season and the red lantern in the 16-team field, the Juniors are now in third place in the table after 25 rounds.
A development that should continue, says goalkeeper Simon Wolf, who is currently preparing for the U20 World Cup with the German national team: "I hope we continue to play in the same way. We play hard, are good in front of goal and want to win every game."
Lukas Hörl, who was given extra motivation with the spontaneous appearances with the pros, thinks highly of his AHL team: "The two ICE games have certainly done us good. But we generally play with great self-confidence in the farm team. We go into every game with the aim of winning it. It doesn't matter whether it's the last place team or league leaders Zell am See. We always want to win."
Self-confidence that had to be worked hard for. The captain: "We were a new team at the start of the season. We first had to get used to the routines. Especially defensively. If you play well at the back, you have more time and opportunities up front. That was the main focus in training and we've got a good handle on it now. And the wins have also given us more confidence."
Derby win!
And EK Die Zeller Eisbären also felt that. The team from Pinzgau is playing its best season for many years this year and is constantly playing for the lead in the table. At the end of October, they also won against the Juniors in Zell am See with 4:3 after overtime. In the return match on November 25 in the Eisarena Salzburg, however, the Juniors prevailed 3:2 after a penalty shootout in front of over 800 spectators - the Salzburg derby has been revived and enjoys special attention in Salzburg as well.
