The Juniors took a two-goal lead in the first period, but Kitzbühel equalized again. The second period remained goalless. The exchange of blows was repeated in the final period, with Kitzbühel finally ending the Juniors' winning streak after eight consecutive victories.
Course of the game The game against the Adler started with a high tempo and went up and down. When the Juniors were outnumbered (10th), Kitzbühel striker Mikael Joonas Niemelä ran alone towards the Salzburg goalkeeper on a counter-attack, but was prevented from finishing. Simon Wolf made a strong save on the ensuing penalty shot. Shortly after the overtime ended (12), Vasily Zelenov gave the Juniors the lead and Phillip Sinn increased it to 2:0 (15). However, the Adler responded with a brace: Waltteri Lehtonen scored to tie the game (16) and Chris Seto equalized after a pass from Rafael Rotter (18).
In the second period, Kitzbühel used an early overtime to put the Juniors under pressure, but failed to finish. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were also unable to capitalize on an overtime situation. The game then picked up pace again and both teams tried everything to score the opening goal. However, the second period remained goalless.
Every centimeter of ice was fought for in the final period. In the 45th minute, Alexander Maxa took advantage of an overtime situation for the home side and scored to give Kitzbühel the lead for the first time. Waltteri Lehtonen then scored just one minute later (46') to give Kitzbühel a two-goal lead. The Juniors remained unimpressed and Daniels Murnieks reduced the deficit to 3:4 (48') and Devin Steffler equalized again in the 54th minute. In the 56th minute, however, Mikael Joonas Niemelä scored again for Kitzbühel in a double overtime situation. In the final minute of the game, the Juniors tried to turn the game around with a sixth player, but ultimately lost 4:5 to EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel.
