New player Ty Rattie
Ty Rattie developed in the Canadian WHL system and subsequently spent six years splitting his time between the NHL (St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers) and the AHL, amassing a total of 98 NHL appearances. He began his European career in 2019 with a season in the KHL, playing for Yaroslavl and Novgorod. From there, he moved to the Finnish Liiga with Ässät before heading to the SHL; after one year in Timrå, the forward played four seasons with Linköping HC.
Late last season, Rattie moved to Switzerland to join HC Fribourg-Gottéron, ultimately winning the Swiss championship with the team. During his time in Switzerland, he recorded 3 goals and 6 assists in 13 games. In the five preceding seasons in Sweden, the forward tallied 82 goals and 97 assists across 245 games. In the 2023/24 season, he was also honored with the SHL award for the most points scored by a foreign player.
Statement from Ty Rattie
"I’ve always viewed Red Bull Salzburg as a successful organization, and I got in touch with the club through Chay Genoway [a former Salzburg defenseman]. There was immediate mutual interest, and I’m happy to have signed with Salzburg. As a player, I see myself as an offensive threat and want to contribute to the attack. At the same time, I’ve worked on my game to ensure I’m reliable defensively and can be a complete 'two-way player.' I’ve heard nothing but good things about the league and the quality of its players; I’m really looking forward to my first game for the Red Bulls."
Statement from Alan Letang, Head Coach of EC Red Bull Salzburg
„We’re excited to add Ty to our group. He brings veteran leadership and valuable experience from playing in some of Europe’s top leagues. Ty is a cerebral player with excellent offensive instincts, using his vision and hockey intelligence to create time and space while playing with pace. We believe his character, professionalism, and competitive nature will be a great fit with our team’s identity and the standards we’ve established."
Rattie has most recently been staying in Airdrie, near Calgary, where he spent the summer with his family and also trained on the ice. Due to the birth of his son this summer, the forward had held off a bit on looking for a new club. "We were all the more pleased, then, to receive the offer from Salzburg," says Rattie, who is expected to arrive in Salzburg with his wife and child in the coming days.
