Match Summary
Salzburg dictated the play, yet Székesfehérvár led 1–0; that sums up the first period. The Red Bulls applied heavy pressure from the start, with Benedikt Krainer hitting the post early on (2nd minute). Later, Peter Schneider and Benjamin Nissner combined for a double chance (9th minute). The Red Bulls also looked solid while shorthanded, but the hosts struck with their first real opportunity. Csongor Ambrus found himself open at a tight angle and fired the puck over Atte Tolvanen’s shoulder into the short-side corner (13th minute). Salzburg kept pushing, even as the hosts began to settle into the game. Dennis Robertson had a chance during a shorthanded 2-on-1 (16th minute), while Benjamin Nissner was unlucky not to beat home goaltender Rasmus Reijola on the rebound (18th minute). The Red Bulls were clearly the dominant side but trailed by a goal after 20 minutes.
The opening minutes after the break again belonged to the Red Bulls, who spent much of the time in the offensive zone. Székesfehérvár improved, and Salzburg got a lucky break in the 25th minute when Kevin Farren missed a gaping net from the slot. The hosts now had the better chances as the game became an end-to-end affair, but the Red Bulls kept the pressure on. Mario Huber fired a strong shot from the slot (30th minute), and then—once again—it was Peter Schneider who converted a pass from Benjamin Nissner in the left face-off circle with a thunderous one-timer to make it 1–1 (31st minute). Chances followed at both ends until Jayden Lee took center stage. The Salzburg defenseman scored twice from the blue line within two and a half minutes (36th and 38th minutes), decisively turning the game around. Peter Schneider added another goal—matching his fellow defenseman by netting a brace—after a fine solo effort where he scored while falling, bringing the score to 4–1 heading into the break (39th minute).
The final period began with an end-to-end exchange, with both teams taking turns on the attack. However, as the game progressed, Salzburg increasingly took control, and Peter Schneider went on to complete his hat-trick. The Salzburg top scorer deflected the puck past the goaltender from right in front of the net during a power play (49th minute). In the ensuing back-and-forth action, the Red Bulls created further good chances and were clearly finding their rhythm, even though the home team still managed to threaten the goal two or three times. Peter Hochkofler capped off the scoring, firing from the slot to seal a 6–1 victory for the Red Bulls and underscore the team's strong performance.
Statement Peter Schneider
Statement from Peter Schneider
"It wasn't the best start; it took us a while to really settle into the game. But after the break, we had a strong forecheck and played the puck deep frequently. We did a good job there and ultimately won thanks to a solid team effort. We aren't quite back to where we used to be yet, but we are making progress with every game."
