Davids Livsics gave the visitors a 0–1 lead (5th minute), while at the other end, Edvins Berzins hit the post with a shot (8th minute). Luca Haitzmann made several strong saves to prevent further goals before Alexander Höller extended the lead to 0–2 (11th minute). Kitzbühel opened the second period with a great scoring chance; shortly afterward, the Juniors had to defend while shorthanded for the first time. However, Kitzbühel capitalized on a quick counterattack while shorthanded, with Jan Lattner scoring to make it 0–4 (39th minute).
In the final period, the Juniors initially turned up the pressure, but a penalty stopped the Salzburg offense. Statement from Forward Luca Krizanovic
“Of course, it’s a great feeling to score my first goal in my very first game, but we can’t be satisfied with the result. We had our chances early on and might have been able to turn the game around with an early goal. Overall, we need to work harder, win our battles more consistently, and come out stronger from the start in our next game.”
