Summer practice
“The skatemill is a great complement to real ice skating. You can focus purely on technique and then apply it later on the ice,” says Lukas Hörl, who knows what he’s talking about. The defenseman is part of the training group that trains in Salzburg and regularly uses the skatemill. Shooting practice isn’t neglected either. On the ice-like surface, the guys can fully concentrate on their shooting technique and solidify it through numerous repetitions. We observed Lukas Hörl and his teammates during training and asked them about it:
Interviews with Lukas Hörl and Athletic Trainer Michael Tschernkowitsch
Athletic coach Michael Tschernkowitsch, who oversees the players' conditioning training, is also a big fan of the alternative training. "Skatemill training is a great addition to our regular training. It helps refine and improve skating technique, as well as stickhandling. It's about repetition, but also about investing quality in the work. The guys are definitely enthusiastic about it."

It will be a few more weeks before they can get back on the ice, and until then, the Salzburg professionals will continue to regularly use the training facilities at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy.
