U21 Development Camp
Many ice hockey careers begin at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy. Just this summer, 18-year-old Germans Moritz Warnecke (defenseman) and Max Bolle (goaltender) were signed by EHC Red Bull Munich. EC Red Bull Salzburg, along with seven other academy players, has integrated 19-year-old defenseman Jakob Schnabl, a current camp participant, into their professional summer training group – to develop alongside established players and learn from them. The U21 Development Camp is another stepping stone on the path to becoming a professional and receives considerable attention within the Red Bull ice hockey community.

In this joint project between Salzburg and Munich, coaches, equipment managers, and physiotherapists from both clubs are overseeing the four-day training camp, ensuring that the 38 players (including two guest players) aged 16 to 20 have optimal conditions to reach their peak performance. Power skating, skills development, and scrimmages alternate with fitness training and theory sessions on mental training and sports nutrition. It's the perfect opportunity to showcase their abilities.
Benedikt Krainer, forward, Red Bull Hockey Juniors
"The camp is fantastic because we can learn so much. There's a lot of specialized training, like power skating and skills training, which isn't something you see every day. Plus, there are the scrimmages. This training camp is the best thing we can do right now to prepare ourselves for bigger challenges."

"It's a demanding program. It's primarily about the players' individual skills. The guys should showcase their abilities in the game and be less restricted by tactical constraints, so we can see what they're capable of. We won't change the world in three days, but we can impart a lot to the guys, and we coaches have the opportunity to provide them with the necessary support."
The U21 Development Camp also marks the end of the summer training program. Next week, final conditioning tests will take place before the young players head into a well-deserved, multi-week break from hockey.
