Salzburg's Defense Builds on ExperienceRed Bulls Continue to Count on Dennis Robertson and Nash Nienhuis// Team updateThe Red Bulls can look forward to the services of Dennis Robertson (contract extension) and Nash Nienhuis (existing contract) again in the 2026/27 season. The defensemen are expected to play key roles in Salzburg's defensive bulwark next season as well.
Salzburg's evergreen Dennis Robertson
Four years ago, Dennis Robertson came to Salzburg from Pardubice, bringing with him two years of ICE Hockey League experience from Bolzano. With the Red Bulls, the defenseman quickly became a reliable presence on the back line and celebrated three consecutive championships with Salzburg. The 34-year-old Canadian is also one of the team's most consistent defensemen, missing only four games in each of the last two seasons.
Measured by points, Robertson had the best season of his professional career in 2025/26 with 32 points (6 goals, 26 assists). Next season will be his fifth with the Red Bulls.
Nash Nienhuis has established himself as a professional
Two years ago, Nash Nienhuis came to the Red Bulls from Michigan State University in the NCAA, thus beginning his professional career. The compact defenseman has quickly adapted to the European ice surface and utilizes the greater space available to him compared to American ice to showcase his offensive skills. Nienhuis has established himself on the Red Bulls roster and, despite playing four fewer games, has recorded 22 points, one more than last season.
Nienhuis, who won the win2day ICE Hockey League championship with the Red Bulls, is also a candidate for the Austrian national team due to his Austrian-Canadian-American citizenship, but is unable to fulfill this role this season for family reasons.
The Red Bulls thank both players for their commitment and performance last season and look forward to playing together again next season.
