Olimpija Ljubljana vs. Red Bulls
With five rounds remaining in the regular season, the standings and the battle for a CHL berth next season are intensifying, and the Red Bulls' fight for a spot in the league continues in Ljubljana.
Statement Lukas Hörl
Current Situation
The direction is right. The Red Bulls have only lost twice in their last 19 games and have also secured maximum points in their last three matches, including a win against league leaders Klagenfurt. In yesterday's 4-0 home victory against Székesfehérvár, the Red Bulls once again delivered a convincing performance, compensating for the absence of four regular players with a solid team effort and the inclusion of young academy defenseman Fabian Baumann in the lineup.
The next test for this lineup now awaits in Ljubljana. The Slovenians, coached by former Salzburg player Ben Cooper, have recovered from a mixed run over the New Year and have recently secured four consecutive wins, the most recent being a 4-2 victory at home against Pioneers Vorarlberg on Tuesday. This keeps them in fifth place in the standings, and with some teams ahead of them having played one or two fewer games, they have potential for improvement.
Ljubljana's strongest weapon is their offense
Despite the ups and downs in the standings – the Slovenians held the top spot for much of the first half of the season – Ljubljana still excels at one thing above all else: scoring goals. With 152 goals scored, they remain undefeated in the scoring charts. However, their dominance is no longer quite as strong; Klagenfurt and Salzburg follow closely behind with 149 and 147 goals respectively. This statistic is put into perspective by their defensive performance. Graz has reclaimed first place with only 85 goals conceded, followed by the Red Bulls in second with 91. Ljubljana sits in sixth place with 114 goals against.
Two former Salzburg players stand out from the potent Slovenian offense. Defender T.J. Brennan and forward Nicolai Meyer are Ljubljana's top scorers with 20 and 18 goals respectively, placing them among the top eight in the entire league.
Highlights Red Bulls vs. Olimpija Ljubljana
Statement by Lukas Hörl
"We are a good unit and can therefore compensate for absences. Ljubljana, with Ben Cooper as coach, plays a similar system to us: They play fast, forward, with a hard forecheck. But we are prepared for that and we are looking forward to it."
