Penalty against Tyler Lewington
Following the emotionally charged game on January 23 in Graz against the Moser Medical Graz99ers, in which Salzburg players Dennis Robertson and Florian Baltram suffered concussions and had to leave the game, the ICE Hockey League subsequently issued the following penalties against Graz players:
"Josh Currie of the Moser Medical Graz99ers was suspended for three games and fined €750 for an illegal check to the head or neck (IIHF Rule 48). His teammate Marcus Vela received a two-game suspension and a €400 fine for the same offense."
" Today, January 27th, the ICE Hockey League Disciplinary Committee finally announced the penalty against Salzburg defenseman Tyler Lewington:
"EC Red Bull Salzburg player Tyler Lewington is fined €2,400.00 for damaging sporting integrity during Game 249 of the win2day ICE Hockey League on January 23, 2026, in accordance with the ICE Hockey League Game Book. Furthermore, Tyler Lewington is suspended for five games for insulting or threatening opposing players or the public."
EC Red Bull Salzburg has issued the following statement in response to the league's penalty against Tyler Lewington today:
"Tyler Lewington's reaction towards the Graz fans is in no way to be downplayed and must be sanctioned. The Red Bulls stand for tough, fair, and technically skilled ice hockey. The Graz players' attacks on the head and neck were also penalized accordingly by the referees. However, the severity of the penalty for Tyler Lewington compared to the two offenses that resulted in serious injuries is a great disappointment. The league needs to be even more aware of its responsibility. Player safety must always be the top priority."
