Game report Both teams started at a high tempo. After some early exchanges, Maximilian Wurzer shot just wide of the far post, and in the 5th minute Adrian Gesson converted Mathias Böhm's pass to give his side a 1-0 lead. Kitzbühel responded with counterattacks and created traffic in front of goalkeeper Luca Haitzmann; Jakob Engelhart converted a rebound in the 9th minute to make it 1-1. The Juniors survived their first power play in a compact manner. Shortly before the break, Jakob Lippitsch scored from the high slot to make it 1-2 for the visitors (19th minute).
The second period began with the Tyroleans once again having the upper hand, but the Red Bulls increasingly established themselves in the attacking third. Jesse Juhola scored from the face-off circle in the 25th minute to make it 2-2. Kitzbühel immediately followed up with Mai Crnkic scoring to make it 2-3. The Juniors remained on the offensive, but took a penalty and safely defused the shorthanded situation. In the 34th minute, Paul Oberhauser tied the score at 3-3 after a pass from Maximilian Kirchebner and his own rebound shot. An intense exchange of blows developed until the second intermission, but no further goals were scored.
In the final period, Salzburg first had to overcome a remaining man disadvantage and immediately went back on the offensive. In the 49th minute, Florian Lanzinger scored precisely into the top corner to make it 4-3 after good work from Oberhauser. Shortly afterwards, Wurzer narrowly missed out on a possible two-goal cushion after a nice combination with Maxim Eliseev and Juhola. Kitzbühel waited for counterattacking opportunities, but Haitzmann remained confident. In the final phase, Salzburg increased the pressure up front without forcing a decision. In the last two minutes of the game, the visitors pulled their goalkeeper for a sixth field player and settled in the Juniors' zone, who held on to their lead until the end.
Forward Mathias Böhm
“We didn't get off to a good start today and they were better in the first period. But we talked about that in the locker room and came back much stronger. We did a good job in the last two periods. It was a very close game, which we were able to win in the end. We're proud of that.”
