Game report
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors quickly found their rhythm and tested goalkeeper Us early on. A power play briefly slowed the hosts down, but they defended well. In the fourth minute, Vadim Schreiner scored on a power play after a pass from Mathias Böhm to make it 1-0. In their first game after a two-week break, the Juniors increased the tempo, established themselves in the attacking third, and looked for gaps with clever passing. Maximilian Wurzer made it 2-0 in the 11th minute, assisted by Vadim Schreiner and Moritz Warnecke. Jesenice then got into the game better and tested goalkeeper Luca Haitzmann, who remained confident. The first period ended with a two-goal lead.
After the break, Jesenice pushed hard to close the gap and created some good attacking opportunities early on. The Juniors held their ground, failed to seal the deal when they had the man advantage, and subsequently engaged in a physical battle with chances at both ends. Salzburg defended compactly and kept Jesenice at bay on numerous occasions, with no further goals scored in the second period.
The Juniors started the final period at a fast pace and put the visitors under pressure with several shots on goal. Jesenice survived a power play, gained momentum with a strong defensive performance, and took advantage of a power play situation shortly afterwards: in the 49th minute, Miha Zajc scored to make it 2-1 after a pass from Lovro Kumanovic. The Red Bulls responded immediately, but Wurzer only hit the post. Salzburg remained stable, Haitzmann made some strong saves – including during another shorthanded situation – and held on to the narrow lead. In the 55th minute, Paul Schuster failed to beat Us on a breakaway. When the visitors pulled their goalie in the final two minutes, Maxim Eliseev sealed the game, scoring into an empty net in the 60th minute to make it 3-1.
Statement: Moritz Warnecke after the home win against Jesenice
// Juniors
Defender Moritz Warnecke
“We got off to a good start after the two-week break and put in a strong defensive performance. Our goalkeeper kept us in the game today, and in the end we won by two goals. It's always difficult to get back into the swing of things after a break in ice hockey. But because everyone embraced the Red Bull identity, the return was much easier for us.”
