Game report
After a delayed start due to a broken pane during warm-up, the Juniors got off to a better start and put Cortina under pressure early on. The visitors remained dangerous on the counterattack and had their first big chance when Massimo Pietroniro played Chad Pietroniro through with a long pass, but goalkeeper Luca Haitzmann made a strong save (8th minute). In the 10th minute, Giorgio Panciera scored from the high slot to make it 0-1. The Red Bulls responded promptly: in the 11th minute, league top scorer Maxim Eliseev scored the equalizer after a pass from Moritz Warnecke. Shortly thereafter, Salzburg had to play shorthanded, and Oskari Kalajanniska missed a chance to put Cortina back in the lead in the 15th minute, hitting the post on the next opportunity. The Juniors survived both shorthanded periods without conceding a goal.
In the second period, the Red Bulls picked up the pace, rotating in the attacking third and consistently looking for ways to score. Another penalty slowed their momentum, but the penalty kill was solid and the home team gained momentum. Despite periods of pressure and power plays, the Juniors couldn't find a way past the compact defense and goalie Antti Karjalainen. Cortina worked its way back into the game, but clear chances remained rare. In the 35th minute, Jesse Juhola failed to score on a breakaway, and in the 38th minute, Maximilian Wurzer also hit the post.
Im Schlussdrittel drängten beide Teams auf die Entscheidung. Haitzmann entschärfte mehrere gefährliche Situationen, auf der Gegenseite prüften die Juniors Karjalainen immer wieder, ohne zum Abschluss zu kommen. Sechs Minuten vor Ende bot sich Salzburg eine Überzahl, Cortina verteidigte jedoch kompakt und ließ keine saubere Aufstellung zu. Da in der regulären Spielzeit kein Treffer mehr fiel, ging es in die Verlängerung. Dort behaupteten die Juniors die Scheibe, blieben geduldig und setzten den entscheidenden Stich: In der 63. Spielminute verwertete Maximilian Wurzer das Zuspiel von Paul Oberhauser zum 2:1-Heimsieg.
