Game report The Red Bull Hockey Juniors made their mark early on. In the first minute of the game, Adrian Gesson took advantage of a pass from Paul Schuster and scored to make it 1-0. Salzburg kept up the pressure, pressing at a high tempo and leaving little space. Kitzbühel looked for counterattacking opportunities with quick transitions, but failed to capitalize on several 2-on-1 situations. In the seventh minute, the visitors were rewarded on the power play: Nick Maul converted Florian Lanzinger's rebound at the near post to make it 2-0 against goalkeeper Thomas Mc Collum. At the other end, goalkeeper Luca Haitzmann made a strong save against Lukas Waschnig. The Red Bulls controlled the game and shifted most of the play into the attacking third. As the game progressed, the Eagles found their footing and gained defensive stability despite being shorthanded. Back at full strength, Mai Crnkic cut the lead to 1-2 in the 15th minute after an assist from Yoan Loshing. Kitzbühel pressed until the break, but no further goals were scored in the first period.
After the restart, the home side came out of the dressing room more alert and put Salzburg under pressure. At the other end, Moussa Hackert hit the post for the Juniors (23rd minute). Two minutes later (25th minute), Yoan Loshing equalized by converting a pass from Mai Crnkic and slotting home his own rebound to make it 2-2. The Juniors responded promptly. With a man advantage, Jakob Schnabl shot from the blue line in the 26th minute and, after good work from Jesse Juhola, made it 3-2. The Red Bulls survived the ensuing power play compactly, and as the game progressed, both teams took turns applying pressure, with the Juniors having the clearer chances.
Both sides initially adopted a wait-and-see approach in the final period. A Kitzbühel power play led to Henrik Hochfilzer scoring the equalizer at 3-3 in the 44th minute. The Juniors responded with a power play of their own. Benedikt Krainer scored in the 47th minute with a one-timer after passes from Vadim Schreiner and Maximilian Kirchebner to give his side a 4-3 lead. The Eagles sought a quick equalizer, but Haitzmann remained confident in the decisive moments. In a 3-on-1 counterattack, Adrian Gesson passed to Nick Maul, who crossed to Maximilian Wurzer. Wurzer finished in the 52nd minute to make it 5-3. Salzburg controlled the game in the final stages and spent most of their time in the offensive third. With the hosts playing with a sixth field player, Gesson finally scored into an empty net in the 60th minute to make it 6-3.
Statement: Adrian Gesson after the game against Kitzbühel

Head Coach Teemu Levijoki
"They played well and always looked for the tall guy, but we were able to deal with that well despite several 2-on-1, 3-on-2, and breakaway situations during the game. We improved a lot during the game. We were able to lay a good foundation today that we can now build on. On Saturday, we'll play Cortina again, who play very similarly to Kitzbühel, and we want to follow up on that right away."
