Game report
The Juniors started the game actively, but conceded the first goal in the second minute when Rasmus Nousiainen finished a quick counterattack to make it 1-0. The game then developed into an evenly matched contest with periods of pressure at both ends. Tommaso Traversa hit the crossbar in the 14th minute with a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Luca Haitzmann. At the other end, Benedikt Krainer narrowly missed against Andreas Bernard in the 16th minute. Both teams had further chances, but there were no more goals before the first break.
The Juniors started the second period with a power play due to a late penalty in the first period. Maxim Eliseev converted Jesse Juhola's rebound in the 21st minute to tie the game at 1-1. Shortly thereafter, Adrian Gesson narrowly missed taking the lead. Merano had its first power play, but Salzburg defended compactly and even launched a dangerous solo attack through Maximilian Wurzer, which was stopped by Bernard in the 26th minute. The Juniors created further chances, while Haitzmann was called into action with some strong saves at the other end. A supposed goal by the home side 32 seconds before the end of the period was disallowed for a hand pass, so the score remained 1-1 going into the second intermission.
The Juniors increased the pressure in the final period. Nick Maul took advantage of a power play in the 48th minute after assists from Florian Lanzinger and Maxim Eliseev to give his team a 2-1 lead. Shortly thereafter, Salzburg found themselves shorthanded and struck coldly: Jesse Juhola set up Maxim Eliseev, who made it 3-1 in the 50th minute. In the final minute, Merano took a timeout and pulled their goalie. Maxim Eliseev scored into an empty net in the 60th minute to complete his hat trick and make it 4-1.

Head Coach Teemu Levijoki
"We developed throughout the game, and the last period in particular was the best we've had in the last three games. It was very close at the beginning, and we didn't get into the game very well. Merano played very well against us. It was only in the last period that it felt like they were getting a little tired, and we were able to take advantage of that. Our penalty killing deserves special mention. We're getting better and better in that area too."
