Red Bulls vs. Steinbach Black Wings Linz
On Friday, they host the Steinbach Black Wings Linz, currently the team to beat, at the Salzburg Ice Arena (7:15 p.m., Student Hockey Night). The Red Bulls aim to build on their strong performance from their recent victory against ERC Ingolstadt and solidify their position in the domestic league, potentially climbing further up the standings.
Statement Benjamin Nissner
Background
It was a conciliatory end, even if the end in the CHL Round of 16 is painful. With their 4-3 victory against ERC Ingolstadt yesterday, the Red Bulls not only beat one of the best DEL teams, but also avenged their clear defeat in the first leg in Ingolstadt.
Impressive Linz comeback
The focus is now solely on the challenges in the win2day ICE Hockey League – the first of which comes on Friday with the Black Wings Linz, who have recently put together an incredible run. Starting with eight losses in their first ten regular-season games, the Upper Austrians have improved enormously and, with seven wins in their last eight games, have climbed out of the relegation zone. Graz, Székesfehérvár, Vienna, and Pustertal are among the teams they have defeated; only KAC has remained unbeaten so far.
With this result, Linz finds itself in 8th place in the standings after 18 rounds, suddenly right next to the Red Bulls, who hold 7th place, four points ahead of Linz. The Red Bulls are aware of the threat that the Black Wings – coupled with their high level of confidence – currently pose. They also lost the first meeting of the season in Linz at the beginning of October, 2-3 in overtime.
Salzburg's new team spirit
But the Red Bulls have also recently sensed an opportunity. Yesterday's victory against Ingolstadt, and especially the way the Red Bulls played, was another step towards the performance that has distinguished the league champions in recent years: high-pressure offensive play across all four lines and a well-organized defense. The Red Bulls want to continue building on this and make life difficult for the Upper Austrians once again in the Salzburg Ice Arena: Linz hasn't won in Salzburg for eight games (across seasons).
Milestone
Salzburg's Benjamin Nissner will be especially motivated for the game, as it marks the 27-year-old forward's 500th game in the win2day ICE Hockey League across all clubs. He is the second Salzburg player this season, after Florian Baltram, to reach this milestone.

Statement by Benjamin Nissner
"We need to bring the same motivation to every league game as we did yesterday against Ingolstadt. And we want to play with the same energy against Linz and not worry so much about their winning streak. Recently, we've seen old patterns of play reappear, and we know that our team is good enough to win games. And we still have a score to settle from the first game against Linz."
