The Red Bulls created numerous chances, but twice they equalized a Salzburg lead and distinguished themselves with strong defensive work. Only in the closing minutes did the Red Bulls secure the win with two late goals, rewarding themselves for their consistent and patient offensive work. Much to the delight of striker Florian Baltram, who played his 500th Bundesliga game today – all for the Red Bulls.

The game recap
The Red Bulls started like a shot, taking the lead early on. In a scramble in front of the Innsbruck goal, Lucas Thaler grabbed the puck on a rebound, scored from a tight angle, and secured his 100th point in the ICE Hockey League (2nd minute). This also brought the Innsbruck offense into action in a now open game. However, the Red Bulls were more on the offensive side, with Brandon Coe having the next great chance after a short solo (7th minute) on his stick, as did Travis St. Denis in the slot in front of the goal (13th minute). Defensively, the Red Bulls intercepted most of the agile visitors' attacks early on, with goalkeeper David Kickert doing his job behind them. Before the break, there was more to do in the first power play, but the Red Bulls even managed a 2-on-1 counterattack with Troy Bourke, who couldn't get past Innsbruck goalkeeper Matthew Vernon (19th minute). 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The first ten minutes of the second period belonged almost exclusively to Salzburg, who created chance after chance; Brandon Coe, Lukas Schreier, Troy Bourke, and Travis St. Denis had prime shooting positions. The run was interrupted by two Tyrolean opportunities. Thomas Mader suddenly shot alone in the slot (27th minute), and Max Coatta went solo (30th minute). But veteran Jan Lattner equalized with a long-range shot (30th minute). After that, the Red Bulls, who had been dominant until then, missed a possible opening goal, even on a strong power play. Suddenly, the visitors pressed, but then Mario Huber fired a shot from distance and hammered the puck into the net to make it 2-1 (37th minute). Salzburg's renewed lead after 40 minutes was well deserved.
After the break, the visitors equalized again, with goal scorer Steven Owre being set up in the slot and scoring a one-timer (43rd minute). The Red Bulls immediately regained control and established themselves in the offensive zone for a long time. Then the Tyroleans broke away and opened up the game again, with back and forth. Then the home team increased the pressure, repeatedly finding the puck in front of the goalie or being blocked on close-range shots. Salzburg swirled, Innsbruck defended. Peter Schneider finally netted on a rebound right in front of the net to regain the lead (55th minute). Shortly thereafter, Dennis Robertson also scored from mid-range on the power play, finally redeeming the Red Bulls (56th minute). David Kickert then prevented the visitors from potentially scoring a goal after a solo effort by Steven Owre (56th minute), and the Red Bulls' patiently earned but hard-earned victory was sealed.

Statement from Lucas Thaler
"The puck isn't going into the net so easily these days. It's just important to keep going and not let up. Today we stayed patient, and the goals came. We definitely deserved the win."
